# Flogstavägen 1B Uppsala: V-Dala's student apartments in Ängsklockan

Flogstavägen 1B in Uppsala is part of Ängsklockan, a student housing area owned by Stiftelsen Västmanlands-Dala nations studentbostäder (V-Dala). To rent there you need to be a member of V-Dala nation, study full time in Uppsala and apply through Nationsgårdarna – not through the municipal housing queue or a private landlord.

## What is Flogstavägen 1B?

Ängsklockan was completed in 2020 and sits in the eastern part of Flogsta, towards Ekeby and Rickomberga. It was built by Lindbäcks and consists of four six-storey buildings. According to V-Dala, the area has 388 apartments and 14 corridor rooms. The buildings at Flogstavägen 1B–1E are part of Ängsklockan; V-Dala notes, for example, that residents of Flogstavägen 1B may use the bike rooms in the buildings at Flogstavägen 1C–1E.

Next to Ängsklockan is Majklockan at Luthagsesplanaden 81–91, an older V-Dala area from 2008–2009 with 376 apartments. The two areas share resident parking, among other things.

## The apartments in Ängsklockan

This is what V-Dala states about the apartments in Ängsklockan:

- **Type:** one room with kitchen
- **Size:** 25–40 m²
- **Furnishing:** unfurnished
- **Rent:** paid twelve months a year
- **Heating:** included. Electricity and water are charged by actual use on the rent invoice, with no separate contract needed
- **Broadband:** included (Bredband2)
- **Other:** French balcony, lift, laundry room in every building, storage for the 40 m² apartments, barbecue area in the courtyards

The corridor rooms are 20–27 m² with their own toilet and shower and a shared kitchen for three to four rooms. Electricity, heating and water are included for the rooms, and rent is paid ten months a year – July and August are rent-free.

The current rent is shown on each vacant home when it is advertised on Nationsgårdarna. Check it there rather than relying on old listings.

## How to apply for a home at Flogstavägen 1B

The homes are let as temporary student housing for the duration of your studies. Nationsgårdarna's rules apply:

1. **Join V-Dala nation.** The housing is reserved for the nation's members.
2. **Study actively.** You must be registered for 30 credits per term and pass at least 22.5 credits per term at a university or college in Uppsala.
3. **Register on Nationsgårdarna** and submit an application of interest for the vacant home before the deadline.
4. **Answer the request.** When the application period ends, the ten applicants with the most queue points get a request to confirm interest, and the one with the most points is offered the contract.

Each paid term in the nation gives one queue point, and involvement in the nation can earn extra points. Queue points never expire. Ties are decided at random.

Mind the blocking rules: if you decline a request three times within six months you are blocked for three months, and if you decline a contract offer you are blocked for six months. No answer counts as a no.

## The location: Flogsta and Ekeby

Flogsta is a district in western Uppsala, about three kilometres from the centre, best known for the high-rises on Sernanders väg whose construction as student housing began in 1966. The ring road Flogstavägen runs around the whole district. Ängsklockan at Flogstavägen 1 is at the eastern end, closer to Luthagsesplanaden and the city than Sernanders väg. V-Dala says central Uppsala and the nations are within cycling distance and that two grocery stores are within walking distance.

## If you are not a student or do not want to join V-Dala

Then Ängsklockan is not the right address for a first-hand contract. Alternatives:

- Other student landlords in Uppsala, such as Uppsalahem Studentstaden, Heimstaden Student and the other nations' foundations on Nationsgårdarna.
- The municipal housing queue for regular rental apartments, Uppsala Bostadsförmedling, where the municipal housing company Uppsalahem among others lets its homes.
- Subletting – then ask whether the landlord has approved the sublet. Hyresgästföreningen has advice on what applies when you rent second-hand.
