Rent Guarantee
What does it mean?
A rent guarantee ensures rent is paid to the landlord even if the tenant cannot pay. There are different types: guarantor (private person who guarantees), municipal rent guarantee (via social services), or insurance-based guarantee.
Municipal rent guarantees are common for newcomers and people with weak finances. Landlords can require a rent guarantee as a condition for signing, especially for tenants without Swedish credit history.
Key Points
- Ensures rent payment if tenant cannot pay
- Types: guarantor, municipal guarantee, insurance
- Municipalities offer guarantees for newcomers and vulnerable groups
- Landlords can require guarantee as contract condition
- Common for people without Swedish credit history
Practical Tip
If you lack Swedish credit history or have low income: ask the municipality if they offer rent guarantees. It can make the difference between getting a contract or not.
